PREP COURSE FOR THE 2007-2008 SAT ADMINISTRATION -- ALSO, WHY MLIC ONLINE PREP COURSE FOR THE SAT IS BETTER THAN KAPLAN SAT AND PRINCETON REVIEW SAT COURSES
If MLIC Turboprep™ SAT course is not offered in your area, you should enroll in MLIC's industry-leading ONLINE prep course for the SAT Reasoning Test. MLIC was the fist Educational Training company to introduce ONLINE education and training for the Standardized Admission tests such as the SAT, GMAT, GRE, and LSAT in 1991, and has since set the gold standard by which all other SAT prep courses ought to be judged.
The ONLINE prep course for the SAT by MLIc can be completed in 4 to 8 weeks, with 15 to 20 hours of time commitment per week. When you Register in MLIC's goal-driven and skill-enhancing SAT ONLINE prep course, you wil be set up with a dedicated instructor, who will be responsible for the following activities:
Setting you up with weekly study and assignment completion plans;
Providing feedback on your completed and submitted assignments;
Customizing the training on the basis of a diagnostic assessment of your unique weaknesses as identified from your diagnostic assignments sent to you initially;
Scheduling telephonic conferences during which we can discuss with you one-on-one and in real-time your specific weaknesses, your understanding of concepts and procedures, and stategies for enhancing your effectiveness in a time-critical SAT test environment.
WHY MLIC ONLINE PREP COURSE FOR THE SAT IS THE BEST ONLINE TRAINING OPTION FOR THE SAT
Kaplan and Princeton Review both offer ONLINE prep courses for the SAT Reasoning Test but these courses require you to work on your own

You will not receive the guidance, help, and coaching support of a professitonal tutor in Kaplan SAT and Princeton Review SAT courses. Princeton Review's Live Online Course allows you to talk to an instructor over the internet but this option works like a tutorial rather than a training option. In MLIC online prep course for the SAT, you will receive proactive interventional support in your areas of weakness, and we do not leave it up to you to contact us in case you have any questions. SAT Reasoning Test
The SAT Reasoning Test is a measure of the
critical thinking skills you'll need for academic success in
college. The SAT assesses how well you analyze and solve
problems—skills you learned in school that you'll need in
college. The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and
seniors.
Each section of the SAT is scored on a
scale of 200—800, with two writing subscores for
multiple-choice and the essay. It is administered seven times
a year in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and U.S. Territories, and six
times a year overseas.

The critical reading section, formerly
known as the verbal section, includes short reading passages
along with the existing long reading passages. Analogies have
been eliminated, but sentence-completion questions and
passage-based reading questions remain.
The Critical Reading Section measures:
- Sentence
Completion
- Passage-based
Reading
Sentence Completion questions measure
your:
- knowledge of the meanings of words
- ability to understand how the different
parts of a sentence fit logically together
The READING questions on
the SAT measure a student's ability to read and think
carefully about several different passages ranging in length
from about 100 to about 850 words. Passages are taken from a
variety of fields, including the humanities, social studies,
natural sciences, and literary fiction. They vary in style and
can include narrative, argumentative, and expository elements.
Some selections consist of a pair of related passages on a
shared issue or theme that you are asked to compare and
contrast.
The following kinds of questions may be
asked about a passage:
- Vocabulary in Context: These
questions ask you to determine the meanings of words from
their context in the reading passage.
- Literal Comprehension: These
questions assess your understanding of significant
information directly stated in the passage.
- Extended Reasoning: These
questions measure your ability to synthesize and analyze
information as well as to evaluate the assumptions made and
the techniques used by the author. Most of the reading
questions fall into this category. You may be asked to
identify cause and effect, make inferences, recognize a main
idea or an author's tone, and follow the logic of an analogy
or an argument.

Important skills formerly measured in the
quantitative comparison format, such as estimation and number

Can you use a calculator
during the SAT Reasoning Test?
Yes. Students can use a four-function,
scientific, or graphing calculator. The College Board
recommends that students use a calculator at least at the
scientific level for the SAT, although it's still possible to
solve every question without a calculator.

Short Essay
- The short essay measures your ability
to:
- Organize and express ideas clearly
- Develop and support the main idea
- Use appropriate word choice and
sentence structure
- You'll be asked to develop a
point of a view on an issue, using reasoning and evidence —
based on your own experiences, readings, or observations —
to support your ideas.
- The essay will be scored by
trained high school and college teachers. Each reader will
give the essay a score from 1 to 6 (6 is the highest score)
based on the overall quality of the essay and your
demonstration of writing competence.
- Get more information
about the essay:
- Sample Essay
Question --
"A sense
of happiness and fulfillment, not personal gain, is the best
motivation and reward for one's achievements. Expecting a
reward of wealth or recognition for achieving a goal can
lead to disappointment and frustration. If we want to be
happy in what we do in life, we should not seek achievement
for the sake of winning wealth and fame. The personal
satisfaction of a job well done is its own
reward."
- Essay Scoring Guide --
SAT Writing essays are scored by
experienced high school teachers and college faculty members
who primarily teach English, composition, or language arts
courses, or who teach a course in another subject that
requires a substantial amount of writing.
Readers will use the Scoring Guide in conjunction with sample essays selected for
training. The Scoring Guide provides a consistent and coherent framework for
differentiating between score points.
Each essay will be scored independently
by two qualified readers on a scale of 1 to 6, with 6 being
the highest score. The combined score for both readers will
range from 2 to12. If the two readers' scores are more than
one point apart, a third reader resolves the
discrepancy.
These sample essays were written in
response to the assignment presented above. They are in rank
order from highest to lowest scores (6 to 1). Each essay is
followed by an essay scorer's description of why the essay
received a particular score.
Multiple-Choice Writing Section on the
SAT Reasoning Test
- The multiple-choice writing questions
measure your ability to:
- Improve sentences and paragraphs
- Identify errors (such as diction,
grammar, sentence construction, subject-verb agreement,
proper word usage, and wordiness)
- Try multiple-choice
questions:
- Identifying Sentence
Errors --
This question type measures your ability
to:
- recognize faults in usage
- recognize effective sentences that
follow the conventions of standard written English
- Improving Sentences --
This question type on the SAT measures your ability
to:
- recognize and correct faults in usage
and sentence structure
- recognize effective sentences that
follow the conventions of standard written English
- Improving
Paragraphs --
This type of question measures your
ability to:
- edit and revise sentences in the
context of a paragraph or entire essay
- organize and develop paragraphs in a
coherent and logical manner
- apply the conventions of standard
written English
The Unscored Section
In addition, there is one 25-minute
unscored section, known as the variable or equating section.
This unscored section may be either a critical reading, math,
or writing multiple-choice section. This unscored section does
not count toward the final score, but is used to try out new
questions for future editions of the SAT and to ensure that
scores on new editions of the SAT are comparable to scores on
earlier editions of the test.
Order of SAT Test
Sections
The 25-minute essay will always be the
first section of the SAT, and the 10-minute multiple-choice
writing section will always be the final section. The
remaining six 25-minute sections can appear in any order, as
can the two 20-minute sections. Test takers sitting next to
each other in the same testing session may have test books
with entirely different sections.
